Looking for Art in all the wrong places

This is grafitti from my little town.It is painted on a utility box by the sandwich store and Peet's Coffee.Graffiti as art. Urban expression.

I thought I was jaded

I just discovered Mighty World Toys. Call Small showed me how to order them and they are such fun. So realistic.I needed plates and  love the little croissants!

The Quest for Mini Art

Where does one obtain Art worthy of Modern scenes? (see post below: "Acrylic table" for blank canvas)At the Gallery.

 This is a difficult house to play with because the designers were seemingly overwhelmed with the glory of plastic. It is so scuptural that it's arrangements are limited even though it was planned to be limitless. I think it is interesting to have this design flaw. The design of the house  is greater than the design of it's inhabitants, in fact dwarfing them. It is telling that the only multi color used in manufacturing furnishings for this house  is in the art pieces for the walls. They mimiced Picasso and other contemporary artists and were realistic though miniature. This showed a respect for that aesthetic though the people were nondescript.(I will discuss how the characters were stereotyped, boys with baseball mitts, and girls with dish towels when I come to it on MyRealitty some time next spring).

Update: what I think I am trying to express is about the transition of focus from doll to house. Dolls used to be the

focus with individual and detailed  features. Great attention was put on dressing them. Hair style is one of the reliable means of dating a doll because they were so accurate whether a wig or carefully braided porcelain..(The Thorne rooms are different as they were not  made as a child's toy.) Here you can clearly see the change in balance of importance from doll to house at this stage of dollhouse development.

I would love watch how children play wih the current MOMA model to see if it is fun.  Has anyone observed this yet? C

Acrylic table

When Shale and I went to TAP Plastics in San Francisco we found many inexpensive little items, like 35 cents!

Shale though this would make a great "floating shelf". I made it a little console behind the couch in the family room . Notice the art books by Amatheria.Perfect for a glass of wine, a little "Mad Men".But what is this?

A blank wall??? I see the light switch on the wall (Delph miniatures) Red couch and chair with ottoman ( minimodernistas) Buddah (Texas tiny) Navajo rug (ebay). elegant fireplace (Wes Christensen)

Where would be a good little art gallery to go shopping for one of a kind  ( even 19 of a kind)  exquiste art??? Hmmmmmm....perhaps you would like to join me?  CM

So we lived in the South Pacific islands when I was a child and my parents had one of those carvings of an oversized spoon and fork on the dining room wall.. These were drawer pulls I wasn't using so a friend cut the backs off for my diningroom in the MH1 kitchen.

Today I lost my Ikea virginity

Yes I have owned Ikea shelving and definitely teen room items and my assistant is a big proponent of the children's room but I had never actually been there till today. My first mistake was not wearing a scarf wrapped around my neck European style. Everyone else seemed to know the dress code. Then the second  thing that happened is I felt a need to remodel my kitchen, even though it didn't need it.

Then I entered container land and started losing my mind. Suddenly I felt that my whole house needed reorganizing.These are candle snuffers who looked like they had potential to me for modern mini lighting.About this time an unbidden tune came into my head. I realized I was humming" I have no strings to tie me down..." from Pinnochio. That was when I zipped my purse shut.

"Why?" you might ask was I there. I got a call to arms from Minidork that MAYBE, just maybe the little lights powered by watch batteries might be in the summer sale bin.

Believe me I looked Megan. The cute salespeople who looked about eight years old told me they were definitely gone. Then the boy joked, "You just missed them".. and when he saw the look on my face he quickly added stuttering, "just kidding... it's an Ikea joke..."

I think this is like the famous ghost orchid no one can find in the rain forrests. He said, "We had them... try at Christmas"... sure along with the fountain of youth!

I did see these child size plastic goblets, too cute!And Santa was there too. So it wasn't a total loss But I have to say I now feel I have dual citizenship with Sweden too. Sorry Megan! 

One of the quirky thing about this Emmeryville Ikea is that their lunch room has been written up in food magazines. The food is delicious and interesting but the surprise is the room has one of the best views of the Bay Bridge and the City. It is located right on the edge of the East Bay so the unobstructed view is priceless. Busiiness people go there for inexpensive lunches. (I do suggest you go during nap hours though.)  C.

Wish I could go to "Minitura, Where the miniature world meets" I received this notice of the event held Sat. Oct 2nd and Sunday the 3rd. in Birmingham, England.

Sometimes these people you love bring you miniatures. For example I now have a Venus de Milo statue in my modern MH1...
I may have to begin a Tuscan Villa project. I am considering knocking her head off to give it that museum look... Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. I mean "Thank you! Sweetheart!". Mommy

This is my post from last November, 2009 on my other blog.
I thought of it when I saw Slinkachu's book of photos at SFMOMA when I went last month.
I had sent Oese a tiny man and woman betting she didn't already have these little figues. She introduced me to his work through her blog last year and I said I would "eat my hat" if she had them. (She has everything else)
I am happy to report she did not! Hooray! I don't have to eat my hat!!!!! Welcome back Oese.
